Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction December 2022
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 12/13/2022
The friendly confines of Wrigley Field in Chicago became a little less friendly on New Year’s Day in 2009, when the hometown Chicago Black Hawks found themselves pitted against Original Six rival the Detroit Red Wings. The conclusion of the game saw 40,818 people file unhappily out of Wrigley that afternoon as the visiting Red Wings - wearing jerseys based off those worn by the 1926-27 Detroit Cougars - defeated the Blackhawks by a final score of 6-4 after scoring 5 unanswered goals. Coming off the back of Kirk Maltby after being worn during the second period is this Red Wings jersey. CCM labeling with “56” sizing is affixed to the collar with a screened “2” for second period above. NHL and Reebok logos grace the front and back necklines respectively. Styled on the front with a large Old English “D” in single white twill, Maltby’s “18” is sewn to the sleeves and verso while the 2009 Winter Classic patch resides over the right breast. Red Wings logo patches are found over each shoulder. Worn for a single period of play the jersey does not show any visible game-wear and remains in beautiful condition. A MeiGray patch numbered “F04839” is found on the inside and according to the company’s population report, the jersey is a "White Retro - Winter Classic 1/1/2009" specimen. An LOA from the NHL will accompany.
