Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction June 2023

The premier draft choice of the St Louis Blues and sixth overall in 1968, Gary Edwards backstopped six NHL clubs throughout his noteworthy career and was runner-up with Rogie Vachon for the Vezina Trophy in 1975. This highly desirable photo-matched mask was worn by the Toronto native for much of the second half of his NHL tenure, including first with Minnesota (1978-79 and 1979-80) where it featured the current design, followed by Edmonton (1980-81) where the mask was then painted white with team decals on each side, and finally, with St Louis and Pittsburgh (1981-82), where the mask was again painted solid white. The white paint was later removed by maker Greg Harrison and retouched with the current Stars design that was still present beneath the former paint jobs. Void of it's strapping, the three original interior pads are intact, with some rusting/salting to the clasps. The surface exhibits minor wear including a few small chips to the paint. Photo-matched to the particular placement of the holes, we should also note that the mask was acquired directly from Gary Edwards.
