One of the larger and more physical defenseman during the era at 6’4”, 225 pounds, Larry Robinson aggressively patrolled the Montreal Canadiens blueline for almost two decades. Beginning his career with the Habs as a Stanley Cup champion during his first season in 1972-73, Big Bird would win a total of six (6) Stanley Cups as a player while also donning the maple leaf of Team Canada numerous times including at the Canada Cup.
Hailing from the early-1980s and originally part of former Montreal Canadiens Assistant Trainer John Shipman’s collection, we offer this jersey that would have been worn by Robinson during either the 1981-82 or 1982-83 season. Sporting a partially detached Maska label along with a washing instructions tag denoting the jersey as a size “54” on the inner collar, the Maska logo is embroidered into the rear hem in blue thread. The front of the garment is decorated with the iconic “CH” crest of Les Canadiens in layered tackle twill while Robinson’s number “19” is sewn to the sleeves and verso in blue-over-red tackle twill. Evidence of two former nameplates is present at the top of the back, one shorter than the other by about 1 ½” on each side.
Absolutely thrashed with game-use, over 100 team repairs are found throughout the entirety of the jersey along with red and blue board paint transfers and stick marks. The interior of the jersey, featuring a customized garter style fight strap, shows pilling at the elbows and shoulders. Staining is also present on the jersey, particularly at the lower hem and both sleeves. A fantastic specimen worn by one of the greatest modern defenseman during his time with one of hockey’s most famous franchises.
