Spending his entire HOF career in Montreal which included hoisting Lord Stanley's hardware an impressive ten times, Yvan Cournoyer first donned the sacred jersey of the mighty Montreal Canadiens in 1963-64, served as alternate captain beginning in 1971-72, and proudly wore the “C” for four seasons. The Roadrunner wore this vintage signed and photo-matched Canadiens jersey while an alternate captain in 1973-74 (“A” removed, but outline visible), and again wore the sweater the following season in 1974-75 while captain – his first Habs captain’s jersey (with current “C” affixed). Sporting Wilson labeling to the collar with “48” sizing handwritten, the solid red road jersey features the famous CH team crest in layered tackle twill, with “12” sewn to the sleeves and verso in matching material, with no nameplate present (the jersey predates the use of nameplates). The desirable garment also features a crudely-sewn garter-style fight strap, with Cournoyer signing the reverse of the team crest in blue marker (minor bleeding to the signature). We should also note that the collar tie string is a replacement.
Worn in two seasons, the sweater shows great game-use in the form of numerous puck and stick marks to the lower front, with additional marks, burns, scrapes and material pulls to the sleeves, with some pilling to the interior. Numerous team repairs are also visible, with examples situated on the front (12), reverse (1) and sleeves (18). The front hem has also been slightly shortened, with wear and fraying to the sleeve numbers. Regarding the photo-matches, an included numeric image has been matched to the black marks on the lower white band on the left front of the team crest, while a second included numeric image has been matched to the placement of the team crest, with a line of white striping showing in the upper opening in the middle of the "H" (wearing the "A"). Additionally, another nine numeric images are showing correct number and team crest placement and photo-matches to the black marks on the team crest, to the line of white striping showing in the upper opening in the middle of the "H", to the wear pattern to the number "2" on the left sleeve, to a mostly washed-out red paint transfer in the bottom left corner of the right sleeve “2” and, to some of the team repairs. Lastly, there are two included numeric images of Cournoyer holding this jersey – front and back, with a few hard copy photos of the photo-matches to accompany.
