One of the most successful American-born goaltenders, Mike Richter enjoyed over a dozen seasons in Manhattan, winning a Stanley Cup with the New York Rangers in 1994. The Pennsylvania native was also a major thorn in the side of Canadians, earning MVP status while winning gold at the 1996 World Cup. This signed stick was used by Richter with the Rangers in the early-to-mid-1990s. A Victoriaville Pro model, “M. Richter” is stamped to the upper shaft in red, with the original white tape over the blade and knob (some of the blade tape is missing), with additional black tape added to the lower paddle. There is some chipping visible along the top edge of the paddle beneath the tape, with the blade also repaired with glue applied to a pair of cracks in the area where the tape is missing. Due to the heavy wear/use shown on the stick that also includes marks and red paint transfer to the shaft, it was probably used in games and then cracked, repaired, and continued to be used in practices. Richter has added a thin black marker signature to the upper paddle that displays nicely.
