Scoring 18 points including 10 goals throughout 23 postseason games, Brett Hull contributed greatly to the success of the Detroit Red Wings during the 2001-02 NHL playoffs, with the club defeating Vancouver, St Louis, Colorado and Carolina to claim the franchise’s 10th Stanley Cup championship. Recognized as one of the greatest goal scorers in history, this Red Wings jersey was worn by Hull during the 2002 Stanley Cup playoffs, and is photo-matched to both the Western Conference Finals and Stanley Cup Finals. A label with “56” sizing is affixed to the collar with heat-pressed “2” (second set), with NHL and CCM crests over the bottom hem and reverse necklines respectively. Styled with the classic winged-wheel Red Wings team crest, “17” is sewn to the sleeves and verso in single twill, with “Hull” across the upper reverse in matching material. The 2002 Stanley Cup finals patch resides over the right breast. Sporting heavy game-use with puck and stick marks covering the front, sleeves and reverse, the inside front band has also been custom-shortened, with light pilling to the interior. Team repairs are also present attesting to thorough use, with examples placed over the front (1) and right sleeve (3).
Regarding the photo-matches, from Game 7 of the Western Conference Final on May 31, 2002 (won by Detroit 7-0, with Hull scoring the Wings’ fourth goal of the game), Getty Images #131293, #658272 and #658319 have been matched to the stick marks on the upper and middle right side of the reverse, while Getty Image #643676 has been matched to the dark mark just above the number on the right sleeve, with the faint mark beneath the front left shoulder also visible. From Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final on June 4, 2002 (won by Carolina 3-2 in overtime), Getty Images #724084 and #724089 have been matched to the stick mark beneath the team crest, with the faint mark beneath the front left shoulder also visible, while Getty Image #724360 has been matched to black mark within the “1” on the left sleeve, with portion of the stick marks over the upper right reverse also visible. The team patch resides on the inside hem, with a COA from the Red Wings, COR from MeiGray and 8” x 10” images of the photo-matches to all accompany this Motown treasure donned by the Golden Brett.
