Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Spring 2022
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 5/31/2022
Articles were already being written about a young man named Wayne Gretzky when he took part in the famous Quebec International Pee-Wee tournament in February of 1974, and the young phenom wowed onlookers at the tourney with his talents as a member of the Brantford squad, listed on page 15 of this 24-page program. One of the nicest copies we’ve ever handled, it’s in gorgeous crease-free near mint condition that features game results for Class 1 having been written in by the original owner. Gerard Bolduc, founder of the tournament, is pictured on the cover and other future NHLers are listed inside. Have fun spotting them while imagining Wayne doing his celebratory “pump” a couple of weeks after his 13th birthday! Additionally, the lot also includes a puck from the Metro Toronto Hockey League’s Humberview Fairview Electronics that were competing in the division up from Wayne’s Brantford team. The puck boasts the year 1973-74 along with "Quebec Pee-Wee Tournament" and remains in incredible condition and showcases no wear whatsoever. A rare opportunity to grab some items from the early days of The Great One’s path to stardom! Hailing from the collection of Shawn Chaulk, and originally acquired through collector Kevin McGuffin who in turn was gifted this and the other early Gretzky items offered in this auction by Toronto Nationals employee Gary Folkes (with the Nationals for a number of years, Folkes held positions with the club such as manager, assistant coach, and statistician), an LOA from Shawn Chaulk will accompany.
