Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Spring 2022

Two all-time greats who curiously were born on the exact same – October 5th, 1965 – and their coveted O-Pee-Chee rookie cards highlight the two sets on the auction block here. Mario Lemieux’s RC is unfortunately hampered by a one-inch diagonal crease near the bottom right corner and receives a VG assessment, but Patrick Roy’s first OPC appearance, in this instance, makes it to NM-MT (OC) in our eyes. Curious also is that the usually off-centered Lemieux second-year card is perfectly centered here and just shy of NM at EX-MT+. Okay, and now on to the “the rest,” landing at our headquarters in older Enor pages, the result of which is light toning observed (mostly) on the upper backs of the 1985-86 examples, more so the ones across the top of each page, with some of the fronts also affected – check out our images of the keys. A NM Al MacInnis contributes to the ‘85-86 assembly, as does Gretzky, a second-year card of Yzerman and the one in memory of Pelle Lindberg. We spot some intermittent corner touches and minor flaws; EX-MT and NM-or-better look to account for a strong majority. The toning issue is less prevalent when flipping through the ’86-87 binder, with rookie cards of Wendel Clark (NM) and John Vanbiesbrouck (EX-MT+) to mention. Dozens of high grade cards appear to be waiting for removal…or not – you’ll get to decide, with All-Star sticker inserts and logos complementing the ’85-86s.
