Ranked number 1 on The Hockey News' list of the 100 Greatest Goaltenders in 2010, legendary netminder Terry Sawchuk was once quoted as stating, “The day they put me in net I had a good game. I've stayed there ever since.” While Terry may be gone, his legacy does live on, with the Winnipeg native and one-time shutout king still the measure of all great goaltenders. We have an exceptional stick used by the icon circa 1957-58, a period that witnessed Terry’s return to Detroit, when he was still roaming the crease maskless. A Northland Pro model with “Sawchuck” stamped to the upper shaft, the stick shows the correct attributes including shaved paddle edges and Terry’s original tape job over the blade, upper paddle and knob – with black electrical tape added over the original knob tape that appears period. The “Lippman’s” supplier stamps are featured on both sides of the shaft, with the stick completely original and unaltered, with light to moderate game-use shown including numerous puck marks to the front side paddle. Sawchuk is one of the most collected goaltender from the Original Six era.
