Setting the NHL attendance record with just over 105,000 spectators, the 2014 Winter Classic pitted Original Six rivals, with the Detroit Red Wings battling the Toronto Maple Leafs on New Year’s Day, at Michigan Stadium in Ann Arbor, with the Leafs taking the victory in a shootout. This photo-matched Red Wings jersey was worn during the second period by netminder Jimmy Howard. “Goalie Style” labeling with a “58” size tag is affixed to the collar, with a felt team crest and numbers utilized including “Detroit” across the chest. The 2014 Winter Classic crest is affixed to the right shoulder, with “35” sewn to the sleeves and verso in matching material. Worn for a single period, the jersey shows just very light wear as expected, with no discernible marks. Getty Image #462664877 (January 1, 2014) has been matched to the specifics placement/shape of the fold marks on the middle area of the inside left sleeve, and to the loose threading on the collar (right side). A MeiGray tag numbered “K06215” is sewn to the inside hem, and according to their population report, the jersey is a "Red - Winter Classic 1/1/14 at Michigan Stadium (The Big House)" and "Team Set Worn Period 2 - 1/1/14 At Michigan Stadium (The Big House)" specimen. We should also note that each team wore four sets of jerseys for the Winter Classic, one for the photo-shoot on Dec 31st/pre-game warm-up, and one for each period – with the third period jersey also worn for the overtime period and shootout.
