Earning a first place finish in the NHL, 11 points ahead of second-place Montreal, the Detroit Red Wings defeated Toronto and New York each in a hard-fought seven games to claim the franchise's fourth Stanley Cup championship. Gordie Howe would lead the club with 35 goals, and be named an NHL Second Team All-Star. This stick used by Howe in the 1949-50 season has been team-signed by 15 members of the Stanley Cup champion Red Wings. A Northland Pro model correct for the era, with "Howe " stamped to the mid-shaft, there are also "Lippman's Tool Shop" supplier stamps to each side of the shaft. Gordie's lie no 7 appears to the upper shaft, with "9" handwritten. The original black tape is in place over the blade and knob, with a strand missing to the knob. There appears to be a hairline edge crack at the toe section of the blade, with the stick remaining completely solid. The taped section of blade shows wear, with a pair of very small chips at the heel. There are a number of marks to the lower shaft, with what appears to be a small area of silicon to the upper shaft - mostly to the underside. 14 have signed along with Howe twice (15 total), with the pencil signatures to include HOFers Red Kelly, Marcel Pronovost, Harry Lumley, Ted Lindsay, and Tommy Ivan (coach), along with Pete Babando, Leo Reise, Max McNab, Clare Martin, Walter "Gunzo" Humeniuk (trainer/backup goaltender), Carl Mattson (trainer) and a few others. Most of the signatures are somewhat light but legible, with a few that are almost completely faded. Howe has signed each side of the shaft with "Mr Hockey" and "1949", with both of these signatures modern and not period.
