Stepping-out from his famous father’s shadow as a three-time finalist for the James Norris Trophy as the NHL’s premier blueliner, Mark Howe saw action in over 1,000 NHL/WHA contests throughout his HOF career, and represented both the US and Canada internationally. Holding a number of NHL records including highest Plus/Minus career by a U.S. born defenseman and most points by a rookie U.S. born defenseman in a season, offered here is this Philadelphia Flyers jersey worn by Howe during pre-season and training camp in his first season in the “City of Brotherly Love”. Actually dating from the previous season of 1981-82 based on the style, the year prior to Mark’s arrival in Philly, the Flyers repurposed these jerseys into the 82’-83’ pre-season and Howe can be seen wearing this style on a Flyers postcard from the campaign as well as the Flyers 1982-83 media guide and training camp brochure. Made by Sandow SK with the brand’s wordmark logo heat pressed over the reverse, brand and washing instruction tags are affixed to the inner collar with one displaying a handwritten “48” size designation in black pen. Decorated over the front with the familiar Flyers winged-P crest in layered tackle twill, the sleeves and verso have been accented with Howe’s number “2” in dual layer tackle twill numerals while “Howe” is spelt out across the affixed matching nameplate in single layer white twill letters. Showing game-wear via dark stick marks over the front, reverse and both sleeves, board burns are seen near the cuff of each sleeve as well along with pilling on the interior. Of note, despite being a recycled jersey from the year prior, there is no clear evidence of a former nameplate aside for two small loose threads below the actual nameplate meaning there is a possibility that Bob Dailey wore it in 1981-82 when he played 12 games for the Flyers, all of which were played early in the season, from October 9th to November 1st. Additionally, Mark has signed the front of the jersey was a black marker ink signature that displays without issue and has added an inscription to our consignor alongside it in matching ink.
