Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Spring 2022

The Maple Leafs, Canadiens and Maroons were featured in O-Pee-Chee’s fifth hockey card effort, with some interesting cards of Hall of Famers involved in the mostly (attractive) lower grade pieced-together 48-card set offered here. Eight examples were graded several/numerous years ago by various companies, with a PSA EX 5 #172 card of Herbie Cain leading condition-wise and joined by PSA VG-EX 4s of 150-Babe Siebert, 166-Northcott, 170-Ward and 177-Mondou, with 156-Desilets in an early KSA holder labeled 4-VGE. Completing the slabbed segment are 143-Thoms (SGC VG 3) and 173-Marker (PSA VG 3). Most attractive amid the raw star cards are 141-Syl Apps (VG-EX+) and 138-Charlie Conacher (VG+), with Toe Blake’s key rookie card (G+) not quite making it to VG. Turk Broda’s #133 card leads numerically and has an impressive EX+ appearance until it’s flipped over to reveal evidence of once having been glued, with similar damage to 15 others (134-Horner, 139-Jackson), and five of those having trimmed edges. Low grade notables are 152-Joliat (writing on the back) and 142-Drillon RC (P), while the rest are dominated by crease-free VG and VG+ examples, with a few higher/lower. A terrific chance to cross off a pre-war set from your want list, or add to your vintage card inventory in one swoop, merits considerable consideration.
