Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction June 2023
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/27/2023
Two dozen cards, all but two of them considered rookie cards, followed up O-Pee-Chee’s initial (48-card) release of 1933-34 – what a swell time for kids and fans it must have been, with other gum companies also getting involved with producing hockey cards. The colorful and very pleasing gathering here is led a group of six (6) of freshly graded PSA cards that includes the Series “B” leader in terms of importance/value, HOFer Aurele Joliat, with card #50 receiving a VG 3 verdict and followed behind by slabs housing the first-year cardboard of HOFers Tiny Thompson (GOOD+ 2.5), Babe Siebert (VG 3), Ebbie Goodfellow (VG-EX 4) as well as Dave Kerr (EX 5) and W.S. Beveridge (VG+ 3.5). Additionally, a lone older KSA slab is also present, housing the cardboard of Glen Brydson that has garnered a VG 3 mark after inspection many moons ago. For the raw ungraded specimens that make up the rest of the set, the card of Archie Wilcox paces the group in the range of VG-EX while the likes of Vernon Ayers, Dave Trottier, Marvin Wentworth and Baldy Northcott are seen as being in the proximity of VG+ condition. For the VG range cards we have the examples of Andrew Blair, Alex Smith and Lorne Duguid while the cardboard of Cecil Dillon and Jimmy Ward fall into the scope of GOOD+. Getting down to the end, the likes of Vic Ripley and Robert Gracie are viewed as being in the range of GOOD while an extra copy of Glen Brydson along with Wally Kilrea, Henry Robinson and John Roach are all viewed as FR. Finally, Laurie Aurie’s card is seen as being PR while the example of HOFer Bun Cook is being labeled as altered due evidence of trimming.
