This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 9/19/2023
A sport for which its pre-war card sets are alluring in any condition, the 1933-34 Canadian Chewing Gum V252 hockey release featured numerous rink legends of the era that would go on to be inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame and was one of the first sets to have its cards released with chewing gum included in the packs. Offered here in near-complete form with 48 of the 50 cards featured in its checklist being present and accounted for, the assembly is paced by freshly graded PSA offerings of Howie Morenz (PSA GOOD 2), Ace Bailey (PSA GOOD 2), Lionel Conacher (PSA GOOD 2), Red Horner (PSA EX 5), Busher Jackson (PSA VG 3) and Aurel Joliat (PSA GOOD 2) while the card of Robert Gracie is housed in an older PSA holder and displays a mark of VG 3 for its effort. Additionally, ASA graded cards, housed in holders of a certain vintage are also included within the graded specimens and house the cards of Hap Day and Ebbie Goodfellow, who have been assessed marks of ENM 6 and VGE 4 respectively. For the rest of the set, found in raw ungraded form and missing only the cards of Frank Finnigan and George Hainsworth for completion, those seen as being in the scope of VG-EX condition include Billy Bridge, Glenn Brydson, Gerald Carson, Dan Cox, Johnny Sorrell, Dave Trottier and James Ward while VG neighbourhood offerings include Red Dutton, Hap Emms, Johnny Gottselig, Norman Himes, Pit Lepine, George Mantha and Murray Murdoch. Followed up by GOOD range cards of Bun Cook, Lorne Duguid, Red Jackson, Baldy Northcott, and Johnny Shepherd, the set is rounded out by FR to G condition range cards of Alex Connell, Alex Smith, Cecil Dillon and Nick Wasnie, FR cards of King Clancy, Charlie Conacher, Ott Heller, Laurie Aurie and Helge Bostrom and finally, PR vicinity cards picturing Clarence Abel, Lorne Chabot, Dit Clapper, Martin Burke, Duke Dutkowski, Charlie Gardiner, Dave Kerr, John Roach, Babe Siebert, Nelson Stewart and Bill Touhey.
