Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction November 2023
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/28/2023
Well remembered for his “stitches” goal mask; rated the greatest in the history of the game by The Hockey News in 2008, Gerry Cheevers enjoyed a lengthy and successful career after making his debut for the Toronto Maple Leafs, and dressed for both WHA and NHL clubs, most notably Boston. From the era of his return to the Bruins from the Cleveland Crusaders, we have a stick used by the 1985 HOF inductee circa 1975-77, and it originates from the personal collection of Tom Johnson. A Northland Registered Pattern model with “Cheevers” stamped to the upper shaft along with his “30” (in red), a production code of “0605” is stamped to both sides of the shaft. Sporting the original white-over-black tape on the knob, the black blade and paddle tape is intact. The stick shows nice game-use with wear to the taped section of blade, chipping to the underside edge of the paddle and a crack beneath the tape to the blade. There is also some red paint transfer to the shaft. An LOA from the Johnson Family will accompany.
