Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2021
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/27/2021
Recognized as one of the greatest teams in NHL history, the New York Islanders completely dominated all competition throughout the early-1980s while being crowned Stanley Cup champions consecutively for four seasons – a feat since unmatched by any other major professional North American sport team. This lot offers a great collection of Long Island lumber from the 1980s (a few sticks may be earlier, or possibly used with other clubs) totaling 8, including a pair that are team-signed. Included, we have sticks used by John Tonelli (KOHO, team-signed), Denis Potvin (2, one is signed), Clark Gillies (Titan, signed), Bryan Trottier (KOHO), Chico Resch (signed), Dave Langevin (Vic, used with 1978-79 WHA Edmonton Oilers, team-signed) and Mikko Makela (Cooper, signed). The majority of the sticks sport the respective player’s name over the upper shaft, with each featuring intact original tape jobs. Moderate to heavier use is shown overall to the group, with the Tonelli stick having approx 14 ballpoint signature – with the majority heavily faded and undecipherable, with a few possible to make out including Nystrom and Trottier. The Langevin stick has been team-signed by the WHA Oilers including Langevin, along with Carlson, Semenko, Walsh, Michieletti, Berry, Dryden, MacDonald, Hunter, Chipperfield and others - but no Wayne Gretzky.
