Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2021
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/26/2021
The darling of Manhattan throughout his Hall of Fame career with the New York Rangers, Rod Gilbert reached celebrity status in The Big Apple, and like Joe Namath, was a revered man about town. Known as Mr Ranger, Gilbert was a nine-time All-Star, with franchise records held for New York including career goals and points. This circa late-1960s original artwork by TA Cully depicts the superstar and was possibly used in publication. At 12” x 16”, the ink and water colour work shows Gilbert in game-action, resplendent in his Rangers finery, with a cameo image added to the upper right. The artist has signed at the base, with the artwork matted and framed to full dimensions of approx 17 ½” x 21 ½”. There is glue residue visible along the top border and left side, with heavier wear to the frame and glass.
