Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2021

Topps increased its hockey card set from 132 to 176 cards for its 1972-73 issue, loaded with interesting differences when compared to ’72-73 O-Pee-Chees; different player photos, action shots and action All-Star cards – Topps cards are always a blast for those who never had a chance at them back in the day. Like several of our consignor’s appealing Topps offerings from the era, this group is dominated by EX-MT, EX-MT+ and NM representatives, with some superior charmers also present – you’ll have fun zeroing-in on the latter. We can often spot a light corner touch or some other minor flaw or two in the key cards, denying us the chance to rate them NM-MT, but most are close at NM or NM+. Bobby Orr, who the previous season had helped his Bruins back to the pinnacle of the hockey world, appears multiple times (5),(as do Dryden, Hull, Ratelle and the Esposito brothers), and it should be noted that the #1-Bruins Team card has indentations, a little scuff and an edge notch from a rubber band. A couple of other cards affected only subtly, a few creased examples and the last card are additional condition exceptions, while an unmarked EX-MT checklist and rookie cards of Gilles Meloche, Jim Rutherford, René Robert and André “Moose” Dupont are also deserving of mention – ah, the good old the 1970s.
