Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2021
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/26/2021
A mainstay with the Quebec Aces in the AHL throughout the early-to-mid-1960s, Ed Hoekstra was an original member of the Philadelphia Flyers, and later played in parts of two seasons with the Houston Aeros in the WHA. From his second season in Texas where he saw action in 19 regular-season contests, we have a team-signed stick used by the Winnipeg native with the Avco Cup champion Houston Aeros in 1973-74. A Northland Custom Pro model with “Hoekstra” stamped to the upper shaft, additional stamps from team supplier Ice Haus grace both sides of the shaft, with the original black tape on the blade and white beehive-style on the handle. Heavy game-use is shown, with considerable wear to the blade including the underside, with a chip at the heel and crack to the toe. There is also heavier wear over the handle and to the shaft. Approx 20 have signed one side of the shaft in ballpoint including HOFers Gordie and Marty Howe, along with Taylor, Schella, Hinse, Hall, Kannegiesser, Hale and others. The Howe displays nicely but is somewhat worn/faded, with the majority of the remaining signatures somewhat light and hard to decipher.
