Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2021
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/26/2021
Part of the defensive core that helped lead the Minnesota North Stars to the Stanley Cup final in 1981, Greg Smith also spent seasons on the blue line of the Cleveland Barons, Detroit Red Wings and Washington Capitals. From his second season in Motor City, we have an especially rare and desirable single-season style Red Wings jersey worn by the Ponoka native in 1982-83. An Eastside label is affixed to the collar (the original Maska tag is gone), with the vintage durene sweater measuring-out to roughly a size 52. Sporting the classic winged-wheel team crest with embroidered detailing, “5” is sewn to the sleeves and verso in unique cursive single white twill, with “Smith” arching across the upper reverse in matching material. A dual tie-up fight strap is also present along with an additional embroidered Maska label over the reverse hem. Showing heavy game-use with a few stick marks over the lower front, there is also a large slit on the reverse hem along with board burns to the sleeves. Team repairs are also present, with examples on the front (4), reverse (1) and sleeves (8).
