Scoring a hefty 127 playoff points throughout his HOF career including 64 goals, Yvan Cournoyer captured the coveted Conn Smythe and led the NHL in postseason scoring during the Montreal Canadiens 1972-73 Stanley Cup championship. Sporting a “15 April 1973” date stamp, the Stanley Cup playoffs begun on April 4th (Montreal’s six-game first-series vs Buffalo ran from April 4th until and including April 12th), so the offered stick would have most likely seen action in the Semifinals and/or Finals - with the slim possibility of use only at the beginning of the 1973-74 NHL season). A Sher-Wood model with “Cournoyer Y.” and “12” stamped to the upper shaft, the original black tape is in place on the blade and shaved knob, with additional stamps on each side from longtime team supplier McNiece’s. There is also the aforementioned date stamp of “15 April 1973” on the lower underside. Light game-use is exhibited with marks to the lower shaft and a few cracks to the top edge and underside at the heel. Cournoyer added a thin ink signature to the upper shaft along with a greeting, with the signature almost completely faded.
