Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2021
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/26/2021
Billed as "Heavyweight History", the Mike Tyson vs Larry Holmes fight on January 22, 1988 took place in Atlantic City at Trump Plaza, and served as the Heavyweight Championship for the WBA WBC and IBF. Tyson would drop Holmes three times in the fourth round to claim the title. We offer a rare and original fight banner for the historic bout. Large at approx 94” x 118”, the vinyl banner features a painted surface including “Tyson Holmes” above, “Undisputed Heavyweight Championship” and “January 22, 1988 Heavyweight History” at the middle, and “Trump Plaza” with a logo at the base. Grommets have been added along each side to facilitate mounting, with just a single ink notation visible within the white border at the base. The banner shows wear to the painted surface with small areas of cracking/peeling, with a single slit visible, and as the banner has been stored folded, there are fold lines present. Originating from noted boxing manager, historian and CEO of the Boxing Hall of Fame Steve Lott, with the banner originally part of the Boxing Hall of Fame collection. An LOA will accompany this scarce fight treasure.
