Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2021

Good for those who have yet to secure the rookie card of goaltender extraordinaire Terry Sawchuk and who do not want to spend a small fortune but who prefer an authenticated/not trimmed one is this PSA GOOD 2 example. Two side-to-side creases make their way through the former shutout king’s pads and goalie gloves, with rounding at the corners also visible. Contrary to many others featured in Parkhurst’s inaugural hockey card effort, Sawchuk’s RC was issued right after his initial NHL campaign - and what a start to an illustrious career it was! Sawchuk paced all goalies with 44 wins and 11 shutouts and was named Rookie of the Year. Another 44 victories (12 via shutout) during the season that cards like this were found in little Parkhurst “boxes” preceded the Vezina Trophy winner’s impressive playoff performance that included four shutouts in eight games as Detroit captured Lord Stanley’s silverware with two straight series sweeps. Terry and the powerhouse Red Wings would go on to claim two more Cups in the next three years. The older PSA holder here has been preserved in fine shape with no visible scratches or scuffs.
