Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2021
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/26/2021
On top of the hockey world during the early-1930s as consecutive Stanley Cup champions in 1930 and 1931, the Montreal Canadiens would go through a heavy transition during the decade. The club would first loose their star Howie Morenz through a trade with Chicago, and despite the Stratford Streak returning to the club for the 1936-37 season, he would sadly pass on March 8, 1937. This lot contains a pair of vintage Canadiens team photos, along with a section of The Standard newspaper from sometime in 1938 with Morenz and his memorial games depicted on the front page. Included, we have a photo premium of the 1934-35 Habs, with the Rice image picturing the full team and the players listed beneath, with advertising for the purchase of additional photos on the reverse (7 ½” x 11” and trimmed, with heavy creasing and tape repairs to the reverse). This is followed by the classic 1938-39 Habs colourized team photo issued in the Feb 11, 1939 edition of La Presse (15 ½” x 22”, with light wear and toning – ideal for framing). The Standard featuring Morenz pictures the superstar along with images of both teams from the memorial game, with just heavy toning and small separations at each side of the horizontal fold along the center.
