Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2021
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/27/2021
Lovers of older high grade O-Pee-Chee cards will love the opportunity to score here, while older hockey fans will be prompted to remember Darryl Sittler’s record 10-point performance at the sight of this 1970-71 rookie card that merited 10 GEM MINT recognition from the KSA grading firm. With almost perfect side-to-side centering, card #218 also boasts striking smooth edges and sharp corners among its captivating attributes, with an apparent immaculate surface also to note. The write-up on the back mentions how hockey “people” expected Darryl to become a superstar and how he made the Maple Leafs in his first try, after a 42-goal, 90-point season in his last year of junior with the London Knights. Toronto’s leader for close to a decade, Darryl scored 36 or more goals for eight straight years, with his heroic 6-goal, 4-assist night coming at Maple Leaf Gardens Saturday, February 7, 1976 in an 11-4 drubbing of the Bruins. Sittler was also a Canadian hero, scoring the winning goal in the inaugural Canada Cup tournament in 1976 – what a year! In a scratch-free holder, this Sittler RC is worthy of your Hall of Fame-caliber ’70-71 OPC or RC collection.
