Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2021
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/26/2021
Finishing four points behind the Philadelphia Flyers at the conclusion of the 1984-85 NHL season, Wayne Gretzky and the Edmonton Oilers would meet and defeat the Broad Street Bullies in the Stanley Cup finals, with Wayne garnering all of the most prestigious trophies that season including the Art Ross, Conn Smythe, Hart Memorial and Lester B. Pearson. This stick was used by The Great One during the memorable campaign. A preferred Titan TPM 2020 model in solid white with red identifiers, “W. Gretzky” has been stamped over the upper shaft with “99” handwritten in black marker and quite faded, with a date code along the underside of “Jan 18 1985” and “1-002” at the heel. With the black tape over the blade intact and the white-over-black on the handle/knob darkened, the stick exhibits great game-use, with wear to the taped section of blade including a tear at the underside, with additional wear to the shaft. The white knob has darkened as mentioned, with small areas of paint transfer visible as well as dark marks to the lower shaft. From one of Wayne’s greatest seasons, demand will be considerable for the offered treasure.
