Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2021
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/26/2021
From the formative years of our national sport during the early part of the 20th century, with the NHL still many years away, we offer a group of three hockey cabinet photos, including a rare individual image of a youthful player with stick. First, we have an image from the early-1900s, possibly late-1890s, of the Fort Coulonge hockey team with striped jerseys seated on the bench along with youth and onlookers, with the image taken from a match against the Portage-du-Fort team in Quyon, Shawville, according to a clipping affixed to the reverse. “First Fort Coulonge Hockey Team” is also handwritten on the reverse of the mount (the photo is 5” x 7” with toning, staining and loss at three corners, with the mount 7” x 9”). Next, we have a photo of a Quebec team from approx the late-1910s/early-1920s with “VCP” jerseys, with the player’s names handwritten at the base of the mount (the photo is 3 ½” x 6 ½” and the mount approx 5” x 7”, with a large crease that breaks the surface and general spotting and toning). The final image hails from approx 1910 and features a youth in street clothes with hockey stick. The photo is 4 ½” x 5 ½” and the mount approx 4 ½” x 6 ½”, with a small area of loss and silvering to the photo along with scratches and toning to the mount.
