Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2021
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/26/2021
Close to one hundred encapsulated 1951-52 cards from Parkhurst’s all-important and landmark inaugural hockey card issue offered here constitute a marvelous opportunity, with of course so much to tell you about...and tempt you with! Surely appealing is the fact that the cards have all recently returned from PSA headquarters, meaning that they’re in new, scratch-free similar holders. As the title informs, an EX 5 Terry Sawchuk rookie card leads the set’s three kingpins, with a Gordie Howe RC coming in at VG 3. You may have somewhat frowned at Maurice Richard’s PR 1 assessment, but we contend that the example is one of the nicest PR 1s that one could hope for. A two-inch diagonal back crease appears on the front as only a light bend, noticeable running parallel with the shaft of the Rocket’s stick and only obvious when viewing the reverse. There are also a couple of light horizontal creases running from the middle of the left edge into the pants. As for the condition leaders, they are an Allan Stanley RC and 24-Gus Kyle at NM 7, while seven cards at EX-MT 6 include 5-Olmstead, 28-Dumart, 68-Pronovost and 72-Meeker, as well as numbers 27, 82 and 93. Combining to total an even five dozen (60) are cards in the VG 3 to VG-EX 4 range ((19) VG 3, (11) VG+ 3.5, (31) VG-EX 4). With in mind those of you who like to analize and know each and every grade, here is the detailed lowdown of cards not already mentioned:
EX-MT+ 5.5: (3)(#s 16, 33, 89).
EX 5: (13)(#s 3-Bouchard, 8, 30, 31, 36, 39, 84-Smith, 85, 87, 90-Evans, 92, 100).
VG-EX+ 4.5: (4)(#s 9, 23, 76-Rollins, 91).
VG-EX 4: (31)(#s 1-Lach, 14-Geoffrion, 19-Henry, 49-Mosienko, 50-Conacher, 52-The Winning Goal, 56-Lindsay, 63-Delvecchio, 64-Abel, 75-Broda, 80-Flaman, 104-Rayner + #s 2, 4, 11, 13, 20, 21, 40, 43, 51, 54, 67, 69, 71, 74, 77, 79, 99, 101, 102).
VG+ 3.5: (11)(#s 17, 26-Quackenbush, 37-Gadsby, 47-Lumley, 60, 62, 73, 78, 83, 96-Laprade).
VG 3: (19)(#s 7-Johnson, 12, 15-McNeil, 18, 22, 25, 29-Schmidt, 32, 34, 41, 44, 53-Stewart, 57, 59, 70-Watson, 86-Kennedy, 98, 103).
GOOD+ 2.5: (3)(#s 42, 46, 97).
GOOD 2: (2)(48-D. Bentley, 105-Conacher).
Meanwhile, nine cards were deemed unworthy of encapsulation, with five not meeting minimum size requirements (38, 55-Kelly, 65, 81-M. Bentley and 95), while evidence of trimming was spotted on one (#35), and then three have “ALTERED” on their labels; 10-Harvey, 45 and 88.
