Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2021
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/26/2021
Ever-popular crime-fighters and their arch-rival villains are featured in this lot, beginning chronologically with classic 1960s’ Batman cards issued in Canada by O-Pee-Chee. Showing that they were enjoyed are 103 lower grade “Black Bat” cards, with duplication present and a near set (of 55) possible since we count 52 different. With “K.C.” initials on the back in ink are 39 examples, with Blue Bat (20) and Red Bat (24) cards also contributing (in even lesser condition), along with a dozen miscellaneous cards. Meanwhile, Topps Superman cards from 1978 include a complete Series 1 & 2 set of 165 cards, 110 extras (with duplication) and 23 stickers (also with dupes), with ’78 O-Pee-Chee Superman cards (text in English and French) offered in complete 132-card form. There’s also a complete (88-card) set of 1980 Topps Superman II cards and some unopened pack bonuses; three ’78 Topps, two ’78 Topps Series 2 and two ’80 Superman II, with noticeable wear to the latter two. It’s back to Batman for the remainder, issued by Topps in 1989; a couple of near sets (129/132), (110/132) and 73 extras, along with 44 stickers, including a near set (21/22). As expected, the ‘70s and ‘80s material is better condition-wise; expect mostly EX-MT to NM-MT among the Superman segment and EX-MT to MINT with the Batman portion, although some stacks have been stored with elastic bands around them, resulting in a few cards (but no many) with slight indentations.
