One of the few NHL stars to be born in England, Peter Lee was raised in Quebec and was drafted by both the NHL and WHA in 1976. Spending parts of six seasons in Pittsburgh with the Penguins, Lee later moved on to numerous years with Düsseldorfer EG, and is a member of the German Ice Hockey Hall of Fame. This helmet was worn by Lee during his time with the Penguins during the early-1980s. A solid black Northland model with no remaining identifiers, there is a Pens decal on the upper right side and the outline of “10” decals over the lower reverse. The majority of the interior padding is intact, with no remaining chin strap. First worn as early as January of 1980 when the Penguins switched from their blue uniforms to the current colour scheme (the Pens helmets were also blue), Lee’s 1980-81 O-Pee-Chee hockey card shows the correct model, with the Penguins decal showing along with what appears to be a few matching white transfer marks, with his 1981-82 card also appearing to show the matching helmet, but neither image is in high enough resolution to be called a definitive photo-match. Furthermore, Getty Image ##1205149116 (Dec 3, 1980) from the 1980-81 season also shows the correct model. Given the heavy wear to both the interior and exterior of the helmet, this model was most likely worn by Lee for numerous seasons, with his final year in Pittsburgh 1982-83.
