Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2021
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/26/2021
An inaugural member of the Chicago Black Hawks in 1926, Mickey MacKay had previously dazzled fans along the west coast, where he led the PCHA in scoring during his rookie campaign in 1914-15 – netting 10 more goals than famous teammate Cyclone Taylor. The “Wee Scot” would also appear for Boston and the fabled Pittsburgh Pirates, with Lester Patrick once stating, "He was perhaps the greatest centre we ever had on the coast”. We have a rare team postcard of the “District No 2 winners” Chesley Hockey Club from 1910-11 featuring Mickey MacKay. At 3 ¼” x 5 ½”, the full squad is pictured, with Mickey appearing at the bottom. Sporting just light edge and corner wear, the postal reverse remains unused with a pin hole visible, along with toning and a pencil notation. We should also note that this is just the third Chesley hockey team postcard featuring MacKay that we have ever handled, and the first with this particular image. MacKay would be enshrined within the Hall of Fame in 1952.
