Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2021

Captivating and constituting a tremendous opportunity is this set of encapsulated 1936 Triumph postcards, one of the nicest ever assembled in hobby history. The sensational 10-card ensemble is, like our title informs, second only to one on the Current Finest list and ranks fourth on the PSA Set Registry’s All-Time Finest list. And talk about a condition leader; Canada’s most outstanding all-around athlete of the first half of the 20th century, Lionel Conacher, leads the way in NM 7 form. It is a Pop 2 with just 1 higher, while a Paul Thompson contributor, at EX-MT 6, is a Pop 3 chart-topper (none higher). Ching Johnson’s EX-MT 6 entry (Pop 1 with 1 higher) is followed by a group of four at EX 5. The legendary Eddie Shore (Pop 9 with 1 higher) is joined be fellow Hall of Famers Busher Jackson and Herbie Lewis, as well as Toronto’s Nick Metz. Completing are goalie Roy Worters (VG-EX+ 4.5) and two at VG-EX 4; Sylvio Mantha and Baldy Northcott. The group has a Set Rating of 5.33 and a Weighted GPA of 5.30. For the uninformed, the postcards were supplements to “The Triumph”, a weekly magazine for boys published in Britain and do not often surface in complete set form, let alone high grade. Numerous scratches to the back of the holder of the Roy Worters card are to mention, along with “you’re going to be elated and proud when these are delivered.”
