Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2021

We like our consignor’s style of saving wrappers, box bottoms and even empty boxes to accompany his late-1980s O-Pee-Chee card sets, but not so much the method of storing cards back-to-back in 9-pocket pages. No matter though, some well cared for components offer numerous options, with Patrick Roy’s always-in-demand rookie card leading an ’86-87 set. We’d say all the OPC cards look to be NM-or-better, although with a couple of corner touches sending the Roy RC to EX-MT, we’ll be conservative and say EX-MT-or-better throughout, with high grade examples to be discovered. Twelve of 16 box bottoms cards, including Gretzky are present from ’86-87, while from ’87-88 are five flattened boxes and 28 box bottom individual cards, with duplication present. Luc Robitaille (NM), Adam Oates (EX-MT) and several other decent RCs are notable among the set, with Brett Hull (NM) and Brendan Shanahan (NM-MT) rookies headlining the ’88-89 contingent, joined by a flattened display box and two box bottom 4-card panels, with Gretzky and Robitaille on hand. Completing a big thick binder is an ’89-90 set (Sakic, Leetch, Fleury RCs) and two folded display boxes, one of them with Mario. A wax pack wrapper is present with each ensemble. Meanwhile, other binders are home to ’90-91 sets of O-Pee-Chee (528), OPC Premier (132) and Upper Deck (550) cards. There are also two extra ’89-90 sets, three additional (hand-collated) sets of OPC Premier and an Upper Deck High # Series factory set, as well as two unopened (36-pack) boxes of ’90-91 Upper Deck (which include high numbers) and three ’90-91 Score (Bilingual) factory sets. Completing the stash are (hand-collated) ’90-91 and ’91-92 Score sets and a ’90-91 Pro Set (405-card) set. You’re all set now – give it some thought and click, click or tap, tap to score!
