It’s always fun to check out and describe 1970-71 O-Pee-Chee cards and that’s where the chronological rundown begins. Handling but no real abuse is observed, with VG, VG+ and VG-EX cards showing up the most often in a 264-card set. We were about to say EX or very close to it for the regular (#3) Bobby Orr card but a small subtle crease sends it to VG+, with most of the other five Orrs VG or VG+, save for 249-Art Ross (VG-EX). As for the key rookies, subtle warping affects the otherwise VG-EX Clarke RC, with Sittler VG+ and Perreault lesser (F) with a couple of creases and corner wear. A crease-free 1st Series checklist is joined by a multi-creased 2nd Series, with both marked. Meanwhile, a total of 395 cards are present from ’75-76, so a set without the variations, with VG+ to EX being the majority and VG-EX the average. A complete ’77-78 set contributes but with lesser condition and attractiveness than the aforementioned. Finishing off the set segment is the Mike Bossy rookie year, ’78-79, with the sniper’s RC EX with a rough/uneven-looking left edge. The accompanying 395 cards are displayed in a binder, with corner dings and/or other flaws affecting a majority. Hundreds and hundreds of singles from ’74-75 (700+) and ’78-79 (600+) complete the stash, with almost all commons and heavy duplication at times to note. You’ll be perusing and sifting for lengthy periods...and most enjoying the earlier cards of Bobby and company, with a low grade ’69-70 Howe card thrown on top of the pile.
