Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2021
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/30/2021
Nifty vintage collectibles are offered here, with splendid images of pre-war hockey stars appearing on not often surfacing postcards that were supplements with boys magazines in the mid-1930s. Their technical grades are low, with most being trimmed down an edge, rendering them narrower and all but a Roy Worters (Triumph) example featuring a tape stain on the reverse. Obvious creases are minimal though, with Eddie Shore, Ching Johnson, Herbie Lewis and Paul Thompson joining the (not-trimmed) Worters among Triumph entries and the similarly not-trimmed Aurele Joliat card alongside three other Champion representatives; Bun Cook, Sweeney Schriner and Mush March. A Triumph folder, or “wallet”, although worn/torn, is a neat complement. Six colorful “coasters” picturing Hall of Famers Beliveau, Howe, Keon, Hall, Richard and Mahovlich are still in attached accordian-style form and were premiums in the early-1960s with El Producto Cigars. Very light handling/wear is to report and no creases - nice. Diamond Match matchbook covers from the 1930s total 22, with Ching Johnson (2 different), Earl Seibert, Art Coulter, Ott Heller, Doc Romnes, Murray Murdoch and three St. Louis Eagles players most notable and condition appealing with no low grade examples. One 1967-68 York action card featuring Pulford and Provost is crease-free and VG with edge wear, while completing are over three dozen Bee Hive pictures. There is some duplication and condition is not great among the Group 1 (2) and Group 2 (22) photos and better among (14) Group 3s. Three fake pictures feature Emile Francis as a Ranger and Armand Gaudreault and Ray Fortin in Bruins uniforms.
