Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2021

Led from behind the bench by notorious hard-as-nails defenceman Sprague Cleghorn and captained by two-time Hart Memorial winner Old Poison, the Montreal Maroons featured three scorers that concluded the 1931-32 Season within the top ten. Finishing in third place in the Canadian Division, the Maroons would advance to the Stanley Cup semifinals vs Toronto. This line-up page taken from the March 18th program vs the New York Rangers has been team-signed by the 1931-32 Montreal Maroons. At 7” x 10 ½” and heavily toned with a small section cut away, a dozen Maroons have signed in fountain pen including HOF coach Cleghorn, club president James Strachan (the Maroons first president) and HOFers Babe Siebert, Hooley Smith, and Nels Stewart, as well as Dave Trottier, Flat Walsh, Baldy Northcott, Jimmy Ward, Archie Wilcox, Glenn Bridson and Jack Vicar. While any Maroons team-signed item is rare and highly desirable, the inclusion of the especially scarce signature of the legendary Sprague Cleghorn elevates the page to paramount importance.
While the signatures show some fading including the Stewart, Smith and Siebert, each is easily legible, with the Cleghorn somewhat bunched-up, and placed over the line-up section. The Rangers’ Dutch Gainor has also signed. There is surface wear to the page and a few minor edge tears, with the small section cut-away measuring roughly ½” x 2”.
