Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2021
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/27/2021
The catalyst to one of the most memorable plays in Canadian sports history, Dale Hawerchuk was sent out by coach Mike Keenan along with Wayne Gretzky and Mario Lemieux late in the decisive Game 3 Final of the 1987 Canada Cup, and after winning the important draw in the Canadians end, sent Gretzky and Lemieux up the ice with the puck with only Igor Steinov to defend... and the rest as they say, is history. Hailing from his personal collection, we offer photo-matched uniform pants worn at the famous tournament by the superstar. CCM Supra models in solid blue with embroidered and sewn identifiers, a Team Canada crest has been affixed to the right pant leg, with all of the clasps and strapping intact. Visible game-use includes marks and wear to the material with faint paint transfer and a long white transfer mark over the front right pant leg. There is also some minor soiling to the interior. An LOA from the Hawerchuk family will accompany.
Regarding the aforementioned photo-matches, an included digital image (undated) has been matched to the long white transfer mark on the front right pant leg, while a second included digital image has been matched to the semi-circular shaped black mark in the white striping on the left pant leg.
