Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2021
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/27/2021
Just nine years old when his nation battled the formidable Soviet Union for hockey supremacy in 1972, Dale Hawerchuk would later contribute to Canada's hockey dominance, representing the mighty maple leaf at the World Juniors, World Championships and Canada Cup. Hailing from his personal collection and rarely surfacing in the hobby, we offer a 1972 Canada-Russia Series calendar. At approx 16" x 28" and printed on linen, with a pole with affixed ribbon inserted along the top seam to facilitate hanging, crossed Canadian and Russian flags grace the upper portion along with "Canada vs Russia" and "September 1972", with the calendar section beneath. An area was designed to fill-in the game results at the base, with this done in red ink, possibly by Dale as a youth, with a pair of his awarded pins/medals affixed to the upper corners, including one for Cross Country. The red ink has faded and bled heavily, with toning, wrinkles and small areas of discolouration to the material. An LOA from the family of Dale Hawerchuk will accompany.
