Often referred to as the "Ice Oilers" by local media to distinguish the club from the city’s then minor league baseball club and serving as a Toronto Maple Leafs farm club from 1964 to 1973, the Tulsa Oilers competed in the CPHL (later CHL) and were crowned Adams Cup champions in 1968, 1976, and 1984. This rarely-seen Oilers goaltenders jersey (#1) hails from the 1971-72 season and was donned by noted netminder Ron Low. A worn D&H Sporting Goods label from the Tulsa retailer is affixed to the collar along with a size “48” fly tag. Featuring a layered white and blue tackle twill team crest, “1” appears over the sleeves in single white twill, with the number repeated over the reverse in matching blue twill. Exhibiting heavy game-use with a number of large material runs over the front and sleeves, a few random dark marks are visible, with a bit of minor fraying to the interior collar (there is also some discolouration to the reverse). A pair of team repairs is also present, on the left cuff and directly beneath the team crest, with the hem removed from each cuff and the material “rolled”. A detailed LOA document will accompany this desirable rarity.
We should note that this style of team crest was first worn in 1971-72 and for a portion of the 1972-73 season. Ron Low wore #1 for the Oilers in 1971-72 and Gord McRae wore the #1 jersey in 1972-73. A photo of McRae from 1972-73 shows minor differences in the team crest, while the collar of the jersey is completely solid in colour, differing from the offered specimen, assuring use in 1971-72 by Low.
