Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2021
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/23/2021
A standout in the Czechoslovak Elite League throughout the late-1960s and 1970s, goaltender Jiri Holecek was awarded the Czechoslovak Golden Hockey Stick as the best player in 1974, and represented his nation religiously throughout his career, seeing action in 164 games for the national team including ten World Championships. This HC Sparta Prague jersey was worn by Holecek in the Elite League in 1976-77. Sporting no labeling and measuring-out to roughly a size 52, the vintage tie-neck jersey with knit sleeve and waist bands features a large canvas “S” team crest with “1” over the sleeves and verso in matching material, along with “Sparta” above and “CKD Praha” below on the reverse. Worn by one of Czechoslovakia's greatest international netminders, this jersey should receive spirited bidding.
The tie-neck collar remains intact and firmly tied, with just a few dark marks visible on the front and sleeves. There is also general toning to the material from age throughout, with minor staining in areas including a large rust-coloured streak on the right side of the reverse.
