This circa 1973-74 NY Islanders No. 8 jersey was recycled for the Fort Worth Texans and worn by the Central Hockey League farm team in the mid-1970s. Attributed with the Islanders to fan favorite Garry Howatt, who wore No. 8 with New York from his 1973-74 rookie season into the Stanley Cup dynasty years of the early 1980s, this tie-neck beauty has Rawlings size 48 and “2” shorter” tagging in the back of the collar. The outline of the removed Islanders team crest, which was replaced with the Texans multi-twill crest on the front, is visible on the interior. There are lots of black marks and board burns, reddish-brown stains on the right shoulder, and blue paint transfer on the right sleeve and left rear tail.
The Texans were the Islanders’ CHL farm team from 1973-78. There are no signs of alterations to the numbers on the sleeves or back and there is no evidence of a former nameplate.
