Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2021
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/23/2021
Forging a legacy that had hockey observers considering him one of hockey's all-time greatest leaders before he was done, Mark Messier was just 19 years old when the 1980-81 hockey season began, with O-Pee-Chee hockey card collectors during that winter having the chance to find cards like this in their packs. Well, not autographed examples, but you know what we mean. After a modest 33-point rookie season, Messier upped his season mark to 63 in '80-81 and then went at a better-than-point-a-game clip for the next 15 seasons while helping the Oilers to their five Stanley Cup championships - what a time in Edmonton! A perfect bold blue marker autograph penned by Mark enhances his rookie card, with the card itself crease-free and EX-MT. Messier later led the Rangers to the pinnacle of the hockey world, becoming the only NHLer to captain two different teams to championships. Talk about a career - it spanned 25 NHL seasons over four decades!
