The 1970s and 1980s were a crazy time for the Maple Leafs thanks to Harold Ballard’s antics, but his management team kept things going as we can see in this collection of five Official NHL Player Contracts. Starting off the lot is the first contract of George Ferguson (d-2019) which has been signed by him along with Alan Eagleson, Howard Starkman, and Hall of Famer Jim Gregory. The GM also signed a Pat Boutette's first contract. Heading into the 1980s, look for a first contract from Jim Benning that has signatures from Punch Imalach and Eagleson, along with the Eagle’s initials. Lastly, there are signed contracts for Russ Courtnall (rookie) and Dan Daoust. Note that the John A. Ziegler signatures are stamped on both, but autographs of Gerry McNamara and Gord Stellick are present. Overall, the contracts are in great condition with expected folds and creases.
The contracts for Ferguson and Boutette measure 8.5" x 17" while the others are longer documents measuring roughly 8.5" x 40". The Benning, Courtnall, and Daoust contracts also have an additional one-page addendum. The Benning addendum is initialed and signed and initialed by Benning and McNamara with Eagleson adding initials as well. The Daoust deal's addendum has two signatures from Stellick and one from McNamara.
