Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2021
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/23/2021
Noteworthy due to the first American to be drafted in first-place overall, the 1983-84 NHL season featured powerhouses the New York Islanders and Edmonton Oilers vying for control, with the Oilers triumphant in the Stanley Cup final. Extremely important historically not just as one of the greatest teams, the inclusion of a young and iconic Wayne Gretzky elevates the Oilers to the top of the hobby. This collection of 35mm Edmonton Oilers colour negatives from the 1983-84 Playoffs and Stanley Cup finals totals approx 810, with roughly 145 that feature Wayne Gretzky. Highlights include numerous images from the Division Finals vs Calgary and the Stanley Cup finals vs New York, shots from the dressing room celebrations following Game 5 of the finals, images of Wayne drinking from the Stanley Cup (12), images from the Cup-clinching Game 5 (44) including a sequence of Gretzky scoring a goal, images from Game 3 (49) and much more. There is also a group of test images/proofs totaling approx 400.
A treasure trove of early Gretzky and Oilers playoff images, the majority of the negatives remain in excellent condition with no issues.
