Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2021
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/30/2021
A captivating and rare display piece is offered here and will be tempting to Bobby Orr fanatics and/or serious hockey card collectors, notably uncut sheet enthusiasts. We should tell you sooner as opposed to later that we do not detect a single crease and marvel at the condition, with no scratches, scuffs or blemishes to report – what a gorgeous surface. The proof sheet does not have the card “backs” printed on the (blank) back, with actually a two-inch in diameter circular tell-tale stamp on the reverse. The Topps logo is encircled by “THE AUCTION” and “AUGUST 1989 – NYC.” and the sheet originates from the Topps “Vault.” You’ve likely noticed that something is missing when checking out the fabulous images; the “black” that frames the TV-like screen and spells out the players’ names and positions is lacking. Have you zeroed-in on the Parry Sound, Ontario teenager who would go on to raise eyebrows for years while helping the Boston Bruins twice to Stanley Cup glory? Bobby Orr appears in the last (vertical) row, fifth from the bottom. After admiring Bobby, it’s fun to pick out and count Hall of Famers, with at least three appearing in each of the top four (horizontal) rows and 24 altogether. Gordie, Bobby, the Pocket Rocket, “Chief” and Boom Boom are in the upper right quadrant, with the upper left led by Beliveau, Bower, Bucyk, Mikita, Pilote, Gilbert and the Big M – formidable star power indeed. The 1966-67 Topps Test set totals the 66 cards here, (compared to the 132 in Topps’ regular issue) and features lighter woodgrain borders than its counterpart. The sheet measures just under 23” by a tad over 28” and the little bit of edge roughness won’t show once this shocker is framed. What an extraordinarily dazzling and riveting piece to hold and behold, with a chance to own it only a couple of clicks or taps away. Good luck with this fascinating jackpot.
