Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2021
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/24/2021
A pair of items hailing from the era of Team USA’s epic Miracle on Ice victory over the Soviets that continues to serve as one of the greatest sporting upsets in history is offered, with a helmet that according to our consignor was used by Dave Delich in 1980 pre-tournament games, along with a Team USA equipment bag from the era. Produced by CCM, the solid blue head gear sports screened identifiers over the forehead and each side, with a solid white “2” decal added to the reverse. “2” is also handwritten to the interior padding (one pad is detached), with the chin strap intact. The blue canvas bag was produced by CCM, with “Team USA” sewn to one side in individual white twill letters and “3” handwritten. These items were originally acquired with the additional 1980 Team USA equipment bags offered in this auction.
The helmet shows moderate to heavier game-use with numerous scratches and surface abrasions throughout, with additional wear to the reverse neck guard and heavy slating to the chin strap clasp. The bag also shows heavier wear commensurate with its former use, with some minor soiling to the material occurring.
