Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2021
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/23/2021
Competing in 61 exhibition contests against European and American teams in the months leading up to the 1980 Olympic Games, we have an equipment bag attributed to use by the iconic USA Olympic Hockey Team during the pre-Olympic tournament which spanned from September 3, 1979 to February 9, 1980. Produced by CCM with affixed logos at each end, a large canvas “8” is sewn to one side, with “24” also handwritten to each side in black marker as well as a small “42” added to one of the straps (a few airline labels are also attached). A large patch with “Team USA” is also sewn to the underside of the bag. Dave Silk wore the #8 jersey for the 1980 team and was most likely the original user of the bag, with the added numbers suggesting continued, recycled use. Moderate overall use is exhibited, with no obtrusive tears or damage.
