One of the greatest captains in St. Louis Blues history, Brian Sutter proudly wore the C on the left breast of his mid-1980s game-worn jersey. Sporting the No. 11 that was retired by St. Louis on Dec. 30, 1988 after a nagging back injury forced Sutter to retire, this gamer with the CCM* patch on the hem is a style worn by the Blues in 1985-86, the year we believe it was worn by Sutter, and the following season, when he was limited to just 14 games. Signed in bold blue marker above the C, this Blues beauty displays solid game wear that features a dozen team repairs, including eight grouped on the right sleeve. More game wear includes board burns, unrepaired burn holes, a black slash mark on the right side of the back, black marks on the front, back and both sleeves, and red paint transfer on the left side of the back. Comes with an LOA.
There are three team repairs on the left sleeve and one on the right front tail. The top of the blue vinyl portion of the left “1” on the back hangs loose and the tip of the blue vinyl at the top of the right “1” is missing, and there are bits of blue vinyl missing on both numbers on the back from scuffing. No tagging remains on this jersey that measures approximately a size 50. There is evidence that the captain's "C" and the nameplate were removed and reattached, a common practice of the Blues during those years.
Sutter was drafted by the St. Louis Blues in the second round (No. 20) in the 1976 NHL Draft. He scored a career high 46 goals in 1982-83, one of his two 40-goal seasons, and six of 30 or more. He played in the All-Star Game in 1982, 1983 and 1985 and was captain of the Blues for the last nine years of his career.
