Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2021
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/23/2021
The greatest gift any boy could receive for the first half of the 20th century, the fascination with trains coincided with the emergence of the big steel locomotives, with model trains still widely collected to this day. We offer a wonderful collection sure to elicit youthful memories, with a 1950s American Flyer set that includes a #282 engine, six cars (five with original boxes), transformer, whistling billboard (boxed), instruction booklet, track and a few other electrical components, followed by a late-1940s Distler German wind-up train set in the original box (includes engine, four cars and track), and a 1950s Marx “Scenic Express” tin train set (wind-up engine with two cards and metal track/background).
The American Flyer engine exhibits wear from use, and we should note that we are unsure if it or the other electrical components are operational, with the cars to include a #638 caboose, #639 box car, #640 coal car, #628 log car, #659 New Haven passenger car and Norwestern Line coal car. The boxes show heavy wear with most missing a flap or two, with additional expected wear to the remaining components and track. The Distler set shows moderate wear to the pieces, with heavier wear including tape repairs to the box. The Marx set also shows just light wear from use, with the metal lithographed track (13” x 22”) in beautiful condition.
